สิงโตกับกระต่ายป่า The Lion and the Wild Rabbit

ณ ป่าใหญ่แห่งหนึ่ง มีสิงโตกับกระต่ายป่าจอมขี้ขลาดเป็นเพื่อนกัน วันหนึ่งกระต่ายป่าได้เอ่ยถามสิงโตว่า “ข้าได้ยินสัตว์ตัวอื่นพูดกันว่า ราชสีห์ผู้สูงศักดิ์อย่างเจ้ากลัวเสียงไก่ขันจนแทบวิ่งหนีไม่ทัน”

In a big forest, a lion and a cowardly wild rabbit were friends. One day the rabbit asked the lion, “I have heard from the other animals that noble lions like yourself are so afrald of the cluck of a chicken that you run away!”

สิงโตตอบกลับไปว่า “ใช่แล้ว สิ่งที่เจ้าได้ยินมาเป็นความจริง สัตว์ใหญ่ๆ ก็อาจจะมีจุดอ่อนเล็กๆ น้อยๆ เช่นกันดูอย่างข้างตัวใหญ่ยังตกใจกลัวเพียงแค่เสียงคำรามของลูกหมูป่าเลยนะ” เมื่อสิงโตพูดจบ กระต่ายป่าจึงกล่าวตอบขึ้นว่า “ฮ่า…ฮ่า…ฮ่า…ข้าเข้าใจแล้วล่ะว่าทำไมพวกสัตว์อื่นๆ ถึงกลัวเสียงเห่าของสุนัขล่าเนื้อมากมายเช่นนี้!”

The lion replied, “Yes, what you have heard is true, a lot of big animais have very small weaknesses. For instance, an enormous elephant is still afraid of the roar of a baby wild pig.” When the lion had finished speaking, the rabbit replied, “Ha ha ha, now I understand why the others are so afraid of the bark of hunting dogs!”

นิทานเรื่องนี้สอนให้รู้ว่า คนขี้ขลาดมักพยายามหาเหตุผลให้ตนเองดูกล้าหาญอยู่เสมอ Cowards often try to find a way to make themselves look brave.
